As part of our 190th birthday celebrations, discover the rich and varied plant life of Sheffield General Cemetery on a relaxed, guided wander with local botanist Gerry Firkins.

From shaded woodland to open grassland, the Cemetery is home to a surprising diversity of habitats and species. This gentle walk offers a chance to slow down, look closely and uncover the plants that thrive in this unique urban green space – from familiar favourites to lesser-known species.

Gerry has been leading field meetings since the 1980s for organisations including Sheffield University, the WEA and the RSPB, and brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to every walk. With years of experience teaching plant identification, he’ll help you see the Cemetery in a whole new way.

A perfect way to enjoy the beauty of spring and connect with nature in the heart of Sheffield.

After the tour, join us in the Samuel Worth Chapel for a complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate or soft drink. Our café, bookstall and People Power exhibition will be open from 10.00am-4.00pm and our books will be available to purchase on the day or online beforehand.
