Men of Unimpeachable Character

The discovery in 1848 of the fraud carried out by William Chadwick, who was the Sexton to the General Cemetery, and Adam Chadwick (his son) who was Secretary (read about it here), was a shock for the Directors of the Cemetery Company. After it they were understandably keen to appoint the best people to these posts and confidently asserted to the shareholders of the Cemetery Company that the new appointees were “men of unimpeachable character”. Find out here what happened next.
