National Cemeteries Week 2025

This National Cemeteries Week, we’re celebrating the unique role that cemeteries like Sheffield General Cemetery play in our communities, as places of remembrance, history, reflection, and nature.

Founded in 1836, our cemetery is not only a final resting place for thousands of Sheffield residents, but also a green sanctuary, a living archive, and a space for learning and connection.

To mark the week, we’re hosting a series of events in the Samuel Worth Chapel:

Monday 11th June, 8.00pm | An Evening of Jazz with Tomorrow’s New Quartet
Tuesday 10th June, 6.00-8.00pm | Bar & Bookshop
Thursday 12th June, 10.30am-3.30pm | Burial Research Open Day
Thursday 12th June, 10.30am-3.30pm | The Demon Drink Book Launch
Saturday 14th June, 2.00-8.00pm | Beer Festival

We invite you to visit, reflect, explore, and help us honour the past while shaping the future of this historic site. If you value what we do, please consider making a donation to support our work preserving the cemetery for future generations.

We thank you for your ongoing support and look forward to welcoming you to Sheffield General Cemetery soon.
