Keystones Piano Festival Presents Laura Cole String Quartet & baleine
This May, Keystones Piano Festival returns for a week of week of music in the round in the historic Samuel Worth Chapel. Featuring a varied lineup of contemporary and classical compositions, this celebration of piano offers an intimate and atmospheric experience in our unique heritage setting.
On Sunday, we’re partnering with Jazz at The Lescar to bring you an evening of expansive, immersive sound – where piano, strings and electronics come together in bold and expressive ways.
Leeds-based pianist and composer Laura Cole presents music from her acclaimed double album Sky Chord / Haptic Space, bringing her striking arrangements for piano and string quartet to life in the chapel. She is joined by the Ember Quartet (Gemma Bass, Seth Bennett, Aby Vulliamy and Semay Wu) – a group of exceptional musicians whose work spans contemporary composition, improvisation and experimental music.
Also performing are baleine, a boundary-blurring ensemble combining ambient electronics with acoustic instrumentation. Blending harp, clarinet, piano, drums and live processing, their music moves between the delicate and the intense, weaving together melody, rhythm and improvisation into evolving, cinematic soundscapes.
A captivating evening of contemporary music – immersive, exploratory and full of sonic colour.
