Keystones Piano Festival Presents Birdsong at Breakfast with Ensemble 360

​This May, Keystones Piano Festival returns for a week of piano music in the historic Samuel Worth Chapel thanks to the loan of a Steinway grand piano from Music in the Round. Featuring a varied lineup of contemporary and classical compositions, this celebration of piano offers an intimate and atmospheric experience in our unique heritage setting.

On Sunday, begin your day with a truly special dawn performance, as Ensemble 360 present a luminous programme inspired by birdsong.

Set among the sheltering trees of Sheffield General Cemetery, this unique concert unfolds alongside the natural dawn chorus – an ancient, ever-changing soundscape that has inspired composers for centuries. The programme traces three hundred years of music for flute and piano, from the delicate evocations of birds in Baroque works by Couperin, Rameau, Telemann and Vivaldi, to the vivid, virtuosic bird portraits of Olivier Messiaen.

As light filters through the Chapel and the surrounding landscape comes to life, this is a rare opportunity to pause, listen and be transported – a moment of stillness and connection between music, nature and place.

Post-Concert Bird Walk
Following the performance, BBC Radio 3’s Tom McKinney – classical music’s favourite birder – leads a guided walk from the Chapel to spot and celebrate the avian musicians of the Cemetery. Strictly limited to ticket holders for the Birdsong concerts.
