Folk at the Chapel Presents Skye Consort & Emma Björling
Sheffield General Cemetery Trust is delighted to welcome Skye Consort & Emma Björling to the Samuel Worth Chapel for a spellbinding evening of contemporary folk.
This internationally acclaimed ensemble brings together musicians from Canada and Sweden, blending traditional music from Scandinavia, Ireland, the British Isles and French-Canada with original compositions. Their sound – described as “scandi-celto-québecish neo-trad” – reimagines ancient melodies through rich, modern chamber-folk arrangements. As critic David Noel Edwards notes, “Lots of groups play those styles. None of them do it like Skye Consort.”
Expect a vivid musical journey featuring voices, fiddle, nyckelharpa, cello, bouzouki, banjo and percussion, moving from whirling polskas and grooving reels to heartfelt songs and breathtaking hymns.
At the centre is award-winning Swedish singer Emma Björling, joined by an outstanding line-up including Seán Dagher, Amanda Keesmaat and Simon Alexandre – together creating music that feels timeless, adventurous and alive.
