Cemetery Sessions Presents Bethany Ley & Manon McCoy

Bethany Ley (Fka. STANLÆY) is an artist based in Bristol, known for their versatility as a producer, composer and vocalist. Their sonic world circulates intricate arrangements informed by Bethany’s eclectic musical background as both a classical instrumentalist, and an avid producer, creating “sublime twilight electronica” (Music is My Sanctuary). Ley has performed frequently with Ishmael Ensemble (BBC6 Album of the Year), and featured with artists such as Snazzback, Waldo’s Gift, Alabaster DePlume. Live appearances as a solo artist and guest include Southbank Centre, Jazz Stroud, O2 Academy, The Jazz Cafe & Glastonbury Festival’s West Holts.  Their long awaited Debut EP ‘Sundial’ was released with Lo Recordings on 24th May and has received support from BBC Bristol and BBC Radio 6. ‘Sundial’ is the most recent eruption of Ley’s hypnotizing production skills where electronica meets classical, with the contrast creating a unique entanglement of modernity and tradition. Drawing influence from a combination of contemporary-pop production, field recordings and microtonal Indonesian Gamelan, Ley creates “a chimeric melding of worlds” – Psychic Garden.

Bethany Ley and visual artist Alfie Dwyer will be performing Sundial as a unique Audio-Visual live show for this tour. Alfie Dwyer is an artist and filmmaker that makes short & surreal animations influenced by lucid dreaming and explorations of space & time inside these worlds. He recently worked with Bethany Ley to create artwork for the ‘Sundial’ EP, and the animation for their single ‘Back to Body’. This animation was inspired by ideas surrounding reincarnation, and inter-dimensional perspectives that see humans across multiple interlinking life-lines. Dwyer and Ley have combined forces to create live and hypnotic visuals that echo some of the themes of the EP & Ley’s musical performance. Dwyer uses his own unique live-video feedback technique that uses time as a paintbrush to create 3D objects that morph in and out of reality. Other recent collaborators of Dwyer include Aphex Twin, Flying Lotus, Thundercat, and Boiler Room.
