Bob Drake, Arch Garrison and VÄLVĒ

Join us and Buds & Spawn for an extraordinary evening of avant-garde and experimental music in the unique setting of the Samuel Worth Chapel. Three boundary-pushing acts come together to deliver a night of soundscapes, storytelling, and sonic adventure.
Bob Drake
Born in the Midwest USA and now based in the South of France, Bob Drake is best known as a founding member of avant-rock heroes Thinking Plague and for his work with the 5uu’s, The Science Group, Vril, and the Peter Blegvad Quintet. But it’s his acclaimed solo recordings, spanning from 1994 to today, that reveal his true voice. Blending anthropomorphic tales, hauntings, geology, and astronomy with quirky melodies, Bob’s music is as playful as it is inventive.
“An alarmingly fertile basin of creativity and collaged, kitchen-sink songcraft.” – Pitchfork Media

Arch Garrison
Craig Fortnam, composer, guitarist, and musical director of North Sea Radio Orchestra, brings his psych-folk project Arch Garrison back to Sheffield. With intricate songs inspired by England’s ancient landscapes — Roman roads, ditches, and rivers — Arch Garrison weaves haunting, delicate folk infused with wobbly synths and nylon-string guitar virtuosity.
“Arch Garrison prove that less can be more, and that our limitations are often the very things that set us free.” – The Quietus

VÄLVĒ
What is VÄLVĒ? Imagine folk lullabies re-imagined by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, synthpop dissolving into dreamscapes of harp and sax, and found-sound collages disrupted by fuzz bass and Welsh orations. Led by composer and performer Chlöe Herington, VÄLVĒ creates carefully sculpted disorder that’s dizzy, gleeful, and utterly captivating.
“Mesmeric and improvisational… in the vein of Brian Eno’s vocal works.” – Prog
