Looking to keep the little ones entertained this May Half Term? As part of our 190th birthday celebrations, join us to explore the nature and ecology of Sheffield General Cemetery.

Little explorers can take a closer look at the hidden world beneath their feet as they gently search under stones and logs in our wildlife area, discovering a fascinating range of invertebrates. Our pond will also be open, with experts on hand to show you what is living in this freshwater habitat.

At our pop-up invertebrate ID station, guided by SORBY experts, children will have the chance to examine specimens under the microscope and learn how to identify them. All bugs, beetles and slugs will be handled with care and returned safely to their habitats and all equipment is provided.

There’s plenty more to enjoy throughout the day — have a go at building a giant bird’s nest using litter-picking tongs to mimic a beak (in the Story Circle), before heading into the Samuel Worth Chapel for arts and crafts activities.

Tickets: All activities are pay-as-you-feel and any donations help us continue to offer low-cost activities for young people (tickets should be booked in advance)

Throughout the 190th birthday weekend, the Samuel Worth Chapel will also host a café, bookstall and People Power exhibition, open 10.00am-4.00pm each day, so you can explore our history, discover our stories and learn more about our future plans.
