As part of our 190th birthday celebrations, experience the magical voices of Sonority Choir in the atmospheric woodland of Sheffield General Cemetery – a unique outdoor setting that invites you to pause, breathe, and connect with the natural world.

In this short pop‑up performance, Sonority Choir, one of Sheffield’s finest upper‑voice ensembles, presents Fire Flowers – a compact yet powerful glimpse into a choral journey of resilience and renewal, inspired by the restorative beauty that emerges from nature’s most challenging moments.

At the heart of the programme is Don Macdonald’s evocative song cycle Fire Flowers, named for the wildflowers that push through the forest floor after a fire – symbols of hope returning where it once seemed impossible. The performance reflects the quiet challenges we all carry, our shared longing for renewal, and the grounding calm we find in nature – something felt all the more vividly among the trees, birdsong, and winding woodland edges of the Cemetery. Fire Flowers invites audiences to stop for a moment, listen deeply, and witness the small but powerful beauty that can rise after life’s fiercest storms.

Known for imaginative programming and captivating performances, Sonority Choir brings together exceptional singers to champion innovative music for women’s voices. Since 2019, the ensemble has earned a reputation for bold artistic vision, warm choral blend, and emotionally resonant performances that shine in unique and unexpected spaces across Sheffield.

Tickets: Free, though donations can be made to Sheffield General Cemetery Trust here

Throughout the 190th birthday weekend, the Samuel Worth Chapel will also host a café, bookstall and People Power exhibition, open 10.00am-4.00pm each day, so you can explore our history, discover our stories and learn more about our future plans.
