Cemetery Sessions returns to the Samuel Worth Chapel for a night of inventive storytelling, theatrical performance and eclectic live music – featuring The Cutlery Drawer, Sister Chain & Brother John, and DJ Annie Frax.

The Cutlery Drawer brings together Joe Murphy (Sergeant Buzfuz) and Polly MacLean (Slate Islands) – two acclaimed songwriters with a flair for dark humour, sharp wit and richly observed storytelling. Joe’s Sheffield Irish roots and indie-folk sensibilities meet Polly’s island-born lyricism and haunting melodies to create songs that are both tender and biting. Between them, they’ve earned praise from the likes of Marc Riley, Tom Robinson and Shirley Collins, and shared stages and airwaves with some of the UK’s finest alternative musicians.

Sister Chain & Brother John, formed in Berlin in the mid-2000s, are a duo unlike any other. Mixing elements of parlour punk, electric music hall and cabaret, they conjure gothic tales of love, loss, decadence and rebellion – performed with a theatrical flair that’s equal parts haunting, humorous and hypnotic. Dressed like Victorian gentlefolk and armed with bass guitar, circus drum and biting lyricism, they’ve performed everywhere from dungeons to festivals across Europe. Critics have called them “weird and wonderful” (BBC Introducing) and “strange, seductive and macabre” (Gaffa Magazine).

Completing the evening, DJ Annie Frax will keep the energy flowing with a genre-spanning set inspired by underground sounds and leftfield grooves. Expect an evening of darkly poetic songwriting, eccentric performance and daring creativity – all in the atmospheric Samuel Worth Chapel.
