Support us by donating and Aviva will match fund (up to £250) for every donation given. So if you donate £5, Aviva will donate £5 and SGCT gets £10.

Being a smaller charity, every donation, no matter the size, significantly impacts our ability to carry out our important work. Donations are vital for maintaining the Cemetery’s beautiful landscape and keeping it accessible. Our grounds never close, and it takes a lot of work to keep the Cemetery in good condition. Your support directly contributes to our mission of preserving history and nature for all to enjoy.
As climate change brings hotter summers and heavier downpours to Sheffield, green spaces like ours matter more than ever – cooling the city, capturing carbon and providing a haven for both people and wildlife.
The Sheffield General Cemetery Trust (SGCT) is run by 130+ volunteers and a small part-time staff team. Between us, we deliver:
- Conservation and restoration work to maintain and enhance the natural and heritage aspects of the Grade II* listed 1836 landscape
- Family-friendly nature walks and workshops, that engage the local community and raise awareness the importance of the park as a local nature reserve and local wildlife site
- Research to rediscover and tell the stories of the Cemetery and its 86,500 occupants
- A varied events programme (from music, concerts and performances through film screenings to food festivals) to connect Sheffielders with the park, one of the City’ best kept secrets.
How Funds Will Be Spent
Donations make all the difference to Sheffield General Cemetery Trust. Our budget for 2026/7 means we need to raise £27,000 from donations and grants for running costs, covering our paid team of 5 part-time colleagues who manage the volunteers keeping the Cemetery’s natural areas and buildings safe, clean and accessible – as a busy thoroughfare open 24/7, it takes constant work to maintain.
Funds support essential roles like our Volunteer Manager, along with recruiting, training and equipping volunteers – including adaptive tools for those with age-related or disability-related needs – so everyone can help us maintain the landscape, protect wildlife habitats and deliver our events and educational programme safely without being held back from volunteering in a place they love.
