Dietrich, Lemper, La Voix… The cabaret has given rise to some of the most boundary- pushing female performers of the 20th and 21st centuries. Yet the songwriters that are remembered remain staunchly male. No more, we say!

Presented by English Touring Opera as part of their Unboxed series, Amy J Payne, Anna Pool and Oliver Rundell invite you to a relaxed and intimate cabaret of words and music from a dazzling array of female songwriters, including Anna’s own new song cycle, Mother Trucker. Expect riotous laughter, quiet reflection, and plenty of joyful surprises as we journey from Piaf to protest song to.. penguins?!Come and discover that some world-famous numbers might not be written by who you thought they were.

ETO Unboxed is a programme of events that explore the multi-disciplinary and multi-genre nature of opera, covering music, theatre, design, language, movement and more. As well as enriching audiences’ engagement with opera, ETO Unboxed increases presence in local communities and provides additional entry points into the world of opera. Events last season included a new commission for soprano and electronics with experimental duo drøne and commissions of new work from poets and spoken word artists around the country.

We are a fully accessible venue and have a bar (with card machine) selling local beers, wine and spirits. 18+ only
