Sonido Polifonico Sheffield General Cemetery are excited beyond belief to be bringing multi-award winning experimental folk / Celtic piper Brìghde Chaimbeul to Sheffield for the first time. Brìghde creates utterly hypnotic soundworlds from her virtuosic playing of the Scottish small-pipes, a bellows-powered set of bagpipes with a double-note drone.
Brìghde has released two acclaimed albums and won various awards (Radio 2 Young Folk award, BBC Radio 2 Horizon award, Scottish Album of the Year nomination).
Her music is deeply rooted in Gaelic culture but always pushing the boundaries of the traditional form. As well as collaborating with folk luminaries Aidan O’Rourke, Cormac Begley, Radie Peat (Lankum), she has also worked with experimental musician Colin Stetson on her recent album “Carry Them With Us”, and global pop sensation Caroline Polacheck.
This is going to be a fantastic evening that will entrance listeners of folk, drone and experimental musics, and all stops in-between and beyond.
“a series of strange, beautiful dream-stories, told with flair, nuance and incredible technical proficiency, but more importantly, with a real sense of ambition and innovation” (Folk Radio)
